Gestalt Psychotherapy in London
Hi. I'm Ben. I am a UKCP registered Gestalt Psychotherapist with over 8 years experience working with individuals providing short and long term psychotherapy in different settings.
When you come to therapy, you may feel that your ways of coping are no longer working for you. You may be experiencing vague dissatisfaction or a desire for something more in your life. You could be feeling anxiety about the future or pain from past events. Whatever you are currently experiencing, coming to therapy is a brave step. I want to meet you where you are and welcome what you bring.
I believe strongly in the capacity of individuals to heal and grow. I also believe that we have many ways of interrupting the natural flow of our interest and energy towards creative living. I see it as my responsibility to support my clients to become aware of how they are responding to themselves, to others, and to the world around them. As we do this, I can be a guide in experimenting with different choices and finding avenues for meaningful change.
I abide by the UKCP and Metanoia Institute codes of ethics.
What is Psychotherapy?
Being in the world can be both wonderful and difficult. We each learn ways of dealing with the world that serve us well and bring joy to our lives. However, we can also become fixed and lose our creativity in living. This often leaves us feeling stuck, isolated or numb - and we can experience distressing states, such as anxiety and depression. These experiences can emerge suddenly or develop over a long period of time.
In psychotherapy, we will try to create space where it is safe for us to explore your experience in order to discover what is happening for you and how you may be getting stuck. By doing this we can begin to create more choices for you to move forward.
What is Gestalt Psychotherapy?
Gestalt psychotherapy is an approach to therapy which emphasises exploration of actual experience to develop awareness. Awareness is seen as important because it helps us to create choices and experiment with new possibilities.
An important idea in Gestalt psychotherapy is that change happens when we embrace all of who we are. In therapy, I will encourage you to explore all the aspects of your experience as fully as possible.
Gestalt is also a relational and holistic therapy. In this view, people constantly shape and are shaped by their interactions with others and their environment. In therapy, this means that our working relationship and the wider context in which you come to therapy are important for our session by session explorations. As we work, I will invite you to pay attention to your experience of these aspects.
Which issues can psychotherapy help with?
Psychotherapy can help with a range of issues, including:
Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Addictions, Alcoholism, Bereavement, Bullying, Career challenges, Depression, Divorce, Drug abuse, Eating Disorders, Employment, Family Issues, Life Transitions, Obsessions, Personal Development, Panic attacks, Phobias, Relationship difficulties, Self-esteem, Self-harm, Sexual difficulties, Spirituality, Stress, Suicidal thoughts, Trauma
Depending on the nature of the problem and how we agree to work, therapy can be both short and/or long-term.
It is very important to me that you find the right therapist for you. Research (and my own experience) has shown that a strong working relationship is crucial for beneficial therapy.
To see if we are right for each other, I offer a free assessment session in which we can explore your reasons for coming to therapy and give you a sense of working with me.
